Podcast: Episode 26 ('Once', Modern Family + Florence)

This week, I've decided to shorten things up... and not because I'm tired of talking, but because I wanted to push out a podcast that has a good quality sound. I had to shorten it because saving the podcast in a higher quality takes up more space. Anyways, I hope you like the music I picked out. See you next week.

1) Saturday Love - Angels & Airwaves
2) We Found Love - Rihanna
3) Never Let Me Go - Florence + The Machines

Podcast: Episode 25 (Halloween, Harry Potter + New Music)

This week, I talk a little about how Halloween was a little disappointing this year... It's my favorite Holiday and yet the most boring night of my life. Also, I touch up a little about J.K. Rowling and her "almost" character misfortune... and of course I feature brand new music. Hope you enjoy!

Music featured on this episode:
1) Princess of China - Coldplay feat. Rihanna
2) I Forgive You - Kelly Clarkson
3) Kissed You (Good Night) - Gloriana
4) Only If For A Night - Florence + The Machine

Podcast: Episode 24 (Horror... and well... Horror)

This episode deals a lot with horror... Okay, well not a lot, but I talk about 'American Horror Story' and 'The Walking Dead'... and I have great music in-between all my talking. Hope you enjoy!

Music featured on this episode:

1) Swimming Home - Evanescence
2) Ghost Towns - Radical Face
3) No Strings - Mayer Hawthorne
4) Heartbeat - The Fray

Movie Trailer: Paranormal Activity 3

Check out the newest trailer for the 3rd installment of Paranormal Activity.

(Short Post) Netflix hears us!

I just received an email from 'Netflix' stating that they were going to do away with the new company, Quikster. Although their pricing is going to remain unchanged, at least there will be no hassle if you want to receive dvd's. So, at least there's some good news to come with Netflix's current changes... Or "un-changes".

It's sad that I'm happy about something the company isn't doing, rather than the alternative.

Podcast: Episode 23 (Jobs, Dexter, PA3)

This episode features new music by Bruno Mars & Daughtry. Also, I give my thoughts on Steve Jobs, the  show 'Dexter', and the newest Paranormal Activity movie.

Songs featured on this episode:

1) Song of Los - Apparat
2) After Midnight - Blink 182
3) It Will Rain - Bruno Mars
4) Crawling Back To You - Daughtry

Netflix?...Quikster?... No, thanks!

I haven't been with Netflix since the beginning, but I did join pre- price increase. I fell in love with the service. DVD's and unlimited streaming for only $9.99? It was a great bargain; something we "fat, lazy Americans" could be proud of. However, now I’ve downgraded my service and am now writing on my despise of Netflix.  What happened?

Over the summer, all Netflix carriers received an email notice stating that prices were going to increase. Okay, fine. I was ignorant to believe that all current service members were going to be “grandfathered” in on the then current prices. This was not the case. About a month later, Twitter, Facebook and about every other social network and news site exploded with anger over the new prices. Most were against the change, but some were angered with the upheaval and thought the mere change was minimal and necessary. To understand why these people thought the changes were okay, you’ll have to check the prices and the packages (because I’m too lazy to provide specifics). From my understanding, if you began the service with one of the more expensive packages (e.g. unlimited streaming and 4 DVD’s at a time), your bill only raised a couple dollars. So, it’s understandable to why you would think it was ridiculous people were getting so outraged.

Now, here’s why many, many other people are so pissed. For the basic minimum package that allows you to receive DVD’s, it only cost $9.99. Now, for the same package, it costs 60% more: $16.00. Okay, so written down, it doesn’t seem that much. With Netflix and their “okay” shipping turn-around, you’re looking at receiving a max of 5 movies in a month. But how can you justify spending $16 a month when you can spend $8 for unlimited streaming (which there was no price change) and 8 movies from a local Redbox machine. It now seems illogical to continue receiving Netflix DVD’s when it’s economically cheaper to just stream movies and rent the movies yourself.

Keep this in mind for later.

As soon as Netflix heard their customers’ reactions, they released a statement saying (and I’m paraphrasing), “We knew these would be the reactions of our customers, however, our decision is final and [deal with it]”; Basically, a ‘sucks-for-you’ from the company. I was always under the impression that you need to listen to your customers, and I’m smart enough to know that with big endorsements from major movie companies and broadcast companies, that Netflix is not hurting for money. That is something I’ll never get- if you’re making millions in net profits to begin with, why do you feel it necessary to make even more at the customers utility and happiness.

So, basically, people are in a pretty sucky situation. Then something changed and made me quite happy. Netflix lost millions of customers. Their stocks plummeted to an all time low. And ‘Starz” decided to pull their movies and Sony-based movies from the service. What a huge smack in the face for Netflix. Even though it hurts some of the customers that there are a few movies missing, this could potentially be the first domino to fall.

Since the price changes, they’ve already decided to split the company into 2 separate ones: Netflix, which will be streaming only, and Quikster, which will be the DVD portion of the service. Quikster will now require you to log onto a separate site with a separate log-in; A small step, but quite annoying if you are a PS3, Wii, or Xbox user who likes to cue your DVD’s on the TV.

So, this is where we sit now- just waiting for Netflix’s next move. I guess we will see what happens next. My guess is that Netflix will really have to figure out what their customers what and stick with it. Too bad Netflix is still the best video-streaming site out there, or I wouldn’t be with them. They know this, and I’m sure this is why they don’t care what people think. They’ve got you in bind. Screw them. It’s only time before services like Vudu pick up pace… even Amazon streaming…

Till next time.

Fake and a Farce!

A couple of podcast episodes ago, I talked about how a guy posted a picture of himself atop one of the World Trade Centers with a plane behind him headed his way (Posted Below). Media caught wind of the photo and paraded the thought that this guy survived the terrorist attacks. That was not the case. Come to find out, the man photoshopped the plane into an old photo of his and used as a joke between his friends.

I don't take it as a joke. I take is as a menace to America and a huge slap in the face for the families affected by 9/11. What do you think? Maybe in another 10 years, people will be able to joke about a few things regarding the attacks, but not this soon.

Podcast 22: Shows! Shows! Quikster?!

This week, make clear my excitement for fall shows starting back up... and I complain a little about Netflix and their newly introduced disaster of a plan, Quikster. I hope you enjoy this episode. Next week, I'll talk about some things happening in the entertainment world, so stay tuned. Hope you enjoy.

Podcast 18

It's been a while... and I promise, in a couple of weeks, I'll be updating my blog and my podcast pretty consistently. This episode features music from soundtracks, new albums and, of course, great artists.

There is a first for this episode though: I've included a 'classical music' soundtrack piece. It's from the latest Harry Potter movie, and is so good that I decided I couldn't pass it up.

I've also included a song by Matt Nathanson featuring Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles. If you closely listen to the words, it's like watching a porno... only being narrated. Haha nevertheless, it's a great song.

Here's the line-up of the music. (I've done more talking here so there are fewer songs.)

1) Say You Like Me - We The Kings
2) Statues - Alexandre Desplat (HP Pt. 2 Soundtrack)
3) Run - Matt Nathanson ft. Jennifer Nettles
4) Goodbye to the Girl - David Cook

Hope you enjoy!

Character: Nancy Botwin

Okay, so Nancy Botwin is a main character, and I said I'd try to talk about characters that weren't necessarily in the direct spotlight, but this chick surprises me in everything. Mary-Louise Parker really caught my attention in the show Weeds, though. She plays a somewhat clueless lady who seems to be stronger than any mob-ish drug dealer, emotionally that is. She's a soft, kind-hearted lady who somehow finds herself in dangerous situations, but those brown eyes of hers never fail to bail her out of trouble. Who can resist her charm?!

After the timely death of her young husband, Nancy has to come up with a way to raise her two boys with the same privileges as before (wealth-wise). When she turns to the only thing that she can do without any experience and college degree, she finds herself putting everyone she loves in danger. Dealing 'Weed' becomes her and her family's trade. They soon learn to grow and distribute, as well, until everything blows up into shit... during each season finale. How can this normal, passive lady hold her calm and find a way out every time something happens? That's why I love her.

Check out Weeds on Showtime. Season 7 is going to start up pretty soon, so definitely check it out. Also, Netflix has all the current seasons... just a thought.

Here's a video of Nancy at her best:

Podcast 17

On this episode, I talk about the Showtime show "Weeds" and play a bunch of new music! Be sure to check it out! Hope you enjoy!

Songs featured on this episode are:

1) You And I - Parachute
2) Super Bass - Nicki Minaj
3) Give Me Everything - Pitbull
4) Marry The Nights - Lady Gaga
5) I Love You This Much - Scotty McCreery

New idea: Favorite Characters!

I've been thinking of new things to write about... It seems like the only things I've been writing about lately is television shows and movies... My new idea doesn't stray far from either of those, but I'm going to be focusing more on specific characters and why I like them so much... Many of my favorite characters aren't even main characters... but without them, the movies and shows they're on, in my opinion, would be absolutely boring.

So for my first character of this new series of posts, I've chosen Mozzie from the USA show White Collar. Mozzie is a somewhat ordinary guy who Neal (the main character from WC) depends on for any endeavor. Whether it be coming up with money for a mission or finding something that's been lost for centuries, Mozzie can do it all. It also helps his character development that everyone loves him and his humor. He's goofy and kind-hearted, so what's not to like? Plus- with all of his conspiracies you would think that he's full of shit... Wrong. I actually find Mozzie to be quite sensible.

So, if you like a good crime show with lots of humor and drama, then go check Moz out on USA this summer with the return of new episodes of White Collar.

Here's a tribute to Mozzie... it has to be one of the best fan videos out there!

Back On Track

I've been absent from the blog, and for that I'm sorry. I'm finally done with school this semester, so I'll have plenty of time to keep up with the blog and podcast.

This week I talk a little about Fox's "Bones" and tell some spoilers... Then I share 4 new songs. I hope you enjoy.

Songs featured on this episode:
1) (It) Feels So Good - Steven Tyler
2) Aftermath (Billboard Remix) - Adam Lambert
3) Still Got Tonight - Matthew Morrison
4) Just A Kiss - Lady Antebellum

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" Trailer

Being lazy and releasing my inner Gleekdom...

This week, I've decided to be very, VERY lazy. So I just whipped some songs together and made the podcast short and sweet.

Songs that are included are:

1) For The First Time - The Script
2) Animal - The Warbler (from Glee)
3) The Lazy Song - Bruno Mars
4) Country Girl - Luke Bryan
5) #SingforJapan - My Chemical Romance

*Just a note about the last song... It's an acoustic version of the "Sing" song with an opening representing Japanese Culture. Proceeds from the song go towards helping Japan. So log onto iTunes and purchase the song!

What's My "All-Time" Favorite Movie? Twister!

You may have noticed that I have recently replaced the Scream theme with a new one: Twister. Twister has to be number 1 on my lists of favorite movies. This, however, is not the main reason of my plastering it all over my blog. Last Friday, April 14 marked the "unofficial" official day of Tornado season. This may not be as exciting if you don't live in Tornado Alley... However, I do. When I was six years old, this movie was released. And every play day after seeing the film my brother, sister, and I filled with our imaginations with nothing but tornado chasing. So in lieu of the season and Twister being my all-time favorite movie, I'm going to keep this theme up until Wednesday...

We're expecting storms here tomorrow, so you can imagine how excited I am right about now!

Anyways, here's the embedded movie below. I hope you enjoy. I'm pretty sure most of you have already seen the movie; if not, then shame on you.

Till next time.

SCRE4M: A Great Thriller

I walk into the theaters already worried that the original cast will be killed off. The movie opens with scenes from "Stab 6" & "7" and ending with two local high-school victims stabbed to death in Woodsboro. This happens the night before Sidney returns to her hometown... So is she the killer? That was my first thought. The film didn't waste any time getting into the chaos. Instantly, Sidney is thrown into the mix when evidence from the brutal murders the night before ends up in the trunk of her car... Taking this as a warning, she starts to fear for her life and those of her Aunt and younger cousin (new characters introduced in '4'). Her cousin, played by Emma Roberts, then receives a call from the killer, which then in return, forces the Sheriff (Dewey) to order a protective detail on Sidney's family... As you can assume, this "protection" was virtually ineffective.

This is about as much of the story as I'll give... I'm not one to give a way the plots and endings... so to tell you what you may want to know, the movie introduces a whole slew of new characters (Emma Robert's friends) as a new generation. Sidney, Dewey, & Gale all are all in the movie as well and are confronted with the masked killer, but the whole movie plays upon the notion "Do you f*ck with the originals?" As Sidney asks ghostface in the movie "Do you have the guts?"... this was the basic theme of my night... I didn't care about the new kids- I cared about the original cast. I knew it was a possibility they may get killed off, so I was on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering if Wes Craven (Director) was going to allow the main characters to be slaughtered.

So do they get killed? And who's the killer? You'll just have to go see the movie. One question I can answer: Is it worth watching? Absolutely. You may have watched all three other movies and realized how "sucky" the last one may have been... well, the fourth installment is probably almost as good as the original, in my opinion. It may not have been that great if it was the first of the series... but because it was the fourth movie, I believe the intentions of the film were mostly for the fans- making it gut-wrenching and nail-biting as ever.

So, if you liked the first Scream, then you'll definitely like the 4th. And be prepared for your socks to be knocked off, because there are some pretty huge shockers (I won't tell). And as the only spoiler of the night: Scream 5 has already been contracted... so maybe we'll see more of our favorite characters... or just more of the new ones... :) You'll just have to go see it!

So, what should I rate the movie... on Flixter, I gave the movie 4 out of 5 stars, so I'll stick with that. Hope you go see it, and hope you enjoy it.

Till next time.

Scream: I wish I was this artistic!

I was bored the other night, so I decided to browse some photos on DeviantArt... and I came across these. The movie posters are all fan-made, at least I'm pretty sure they are all fan-made! I hope you like them- I thought they were really, really, really good! Some of these definitely should be hanging up in the theaters for Scream 4!

Scream 3

Embedded below is the final movie of the trilogy (until this Friday when the Saga continues). Hopefully by then, you'll have watched all three Scream movies! Hope you enjoy this movie- it's still not as good as the first, but it brings light a whole buch of stuff from Sidney's past.

Till next time.

Podcast: Scream Music To "Die" For

This week, I've included 4 songs from each of the 4 Scream films. Yes, even Scream 4. It comes to theaters next Friday, April 15, so be sure to go see it. There is one thing I noticed on this episode especially, which is a "text-book" no-no: I've said "Um" way too many times. Hopefully you can listen past that- the music is really good.

Here are the songs featured on this week's episode:

1) Don't Fear The Reaper - Gus
2) She Said - Collective Soul
3) What If - Creed
4) Something To Die For - The Sounds

Scream 2: A necessary sequel.

Hello Scream Fans!

Below, I have embedded Scream 2. Just a few words about this film: Don't expect it to be as good as the first. It's a great sequel no doubt, but whenever you mix college kids with horror, the atmosphere or "aesthetic" of the movie turns more to stupidity. Nevertheless, I love the movie, and I'm sure you'll like it as well (if you can get past the girls running UP the stairs instead of out the door for help).

Till next time.

Episode 13 - It's feeling like summer!

On this episode, I've posted new music from the past week... and I even feature music by Grey's Anatomy star, Sara Ramirez (also known as Callie Torez).

The weather's been great here in Kansas, so I decided to pick some great "Summer-Feeling" songs from the new music that came out. I hope you enjoy the episode. Next week will be nothing but music from the "Scream" movies.

Here's the music that was featured on Episode 13:

1) Alligator Sky - Owl City
2) Crumbling - Emery
3) Lotus Flower - Radiohead
4) The Story - Sara Ramirez

Scream: Definitely A Classic in Waiting

As promised, here is Scream (the full movie). I hope you enjoy!

Till next time.

p.s. I've embedded a "Megavideo" video, and usually only allows 75 minutes of watch time before it makes you wait a couple of hours to resume. There are add-ons for your browsers that allow you to bypass the limit. I use Google Chrome, and use an add-on called "MegaSkipper".

Scary Movie Mania: Scream 4

It's no shock that I love horror movies... Last Halloween, I designed my whole blog around scary movies. This week, I've done something similar: I designed the blog around an up and coming movie, Scream 4.

Let me tell you why I'm excited. Like Toy Story, the 'Scream' movies are a trilogy, or quadrilogy now, that my generation has grown up with. "Do you wanna play a game" has to be one of the most well-known movie quotes out there... and the concept of the movie was absolutely original... it gave my friends and many other people a great line to drop when prank calling people.

Ok, ok so a white-masked, knife-stabbing killer isn't so original (ref. Halloween), but in the creation of "Scream", a villain & costume was created as well, and was turned into one of the most recognizable faces/costumes out there. Here's the major difference between the two: Scream vs. Halloween. When Michael Meyers chases you, he walks. When "Ghostface" chases you, he runs!

Since I saw the first movie, Ghostface has been a returning character to many of my recurring nightmares. Even though the movie may not have been the scariest I've seen, just the thought of a hooded figure popping out of the dark and stabbing you right in the gut, sends chills down my spine.

+ the first 'Scream' did something many movies have failed to do in years. It accomplished an intro that people will remember for the rest of their lives. Forget Sidney Prescott and the rest of the cast, Drew Barrymore's thrilling intro instantly made Scream a favorite scary movie upon the first time I watched it. I'll tell you what, I bet there's wasn't one kid willing to be alone after watching that. This week's Entertainment Weekly magazine rated the first movie very highly compared to 2 & 3- I bet this is why. Furthermore, the same magazine a few weeks ago also referenced Drew Barrymore's performance in Scream and went on the say they believed that her career was re-boosted following her small role.

I'll be sure to continue this train of thought next time---

Here is my plan over the rest of this week, and the next 2 weeks:

  • I'll embed all 3 "Scream" movies- The first starting this week, the second next week, etc.
  • On one of my next podcast episodes, I'll play some music from the first three movies.
  • And as soon as I see the 4th movie (which comes out on 4/15) I'll write a review!

& Scream wont be all I write about... I'll still write on other things too!

Till next time.

My Spring Break Double Feature

Spring break just ended for me, and it pisses me off. No, nothing physically happened to "piss" me off. It's just the fact that my break is over. But... I was able to see 2 new movies. Lame right? Well going to the theaters just happens to be one of my favorite things to do. So what did I go see? "The Lincoln Lawyer" and "Red Riding Hood".

Here's my thoughts on "The Lincoln Lawyer":

It was EXCELLENT. I'm not a Matthew Mcconaughey fan... actually, one of my favorite movies which he plays in is "A Time To Kill" where he also portrays a lawyer. Anyways, in the movie, Matthew plays a pretty unliked lawyer who defends sketchy people from the rough side of L.A. He finds himself defending a guy (Ryan Phillippe) who is accused of assaulting a woman and attempting to kill her. The movie's not exactly a fast-paced movie, but it's very suspenseful. The whole movie will just keep you on your toes as it did for me. It was pretty unpredictable the whole way through. So, if you have a free night, definitely go see it! You wont be disappointed, I promise.

My thoughts on "Red Riding Hood":

It was okay, but don't go waste your money. It's a pretty neat portrayal of the tale, however it was just plain weird at some parts. The acting was good (I love Amanda Seyfried), but the plot was actually really boring. Apparently the director is the same director from one of the Twilight movies... so that may explain why the movie was kind of sucky. Other than that, the story is predictable. If you've read any of the Red Riding Hood stories, then the movie isn't too far from them. Overall, just wait until it comes out on Redbox. It'll be a good $1 rental. The only going for the movie is probably its soundtrack. Check it out on iTunes.

Till next time.

So I may have a gambling problem...

So, I may have a gambling problem... and my 21st Birthday "Vegas" trip is creeping up on me. That can never be a good sign...

For those of you who may not know: in certain states, people are allowed to gamble on Indian Reservations if you are 18 or older. There aren't any Indian Reservations with Casinos in Kansas, so I travel "Where the wind comes sweeping down the plain". That's right, Oklahoma.  Picture this: Vacant, run-down buildings everywhere, trailer homes in every direction, rusted vehicles parked in lots on every corner... and BAM! A 5-star hotel and casino right yonder. Not kidding. As a guest in the hotel, you could easily imagine being right on the Vegas strip, but look out a window and no, there's never-ending forests with ghost towns scattered in every direction.

Now that you can see where I'm spending my money, you can understand how it's even possible a 20-year old can have a gambling addiction.

Anyways, I have this idea stuck in my head that I will win a million dollars when I go to the casinos... This has been my goal the past 10 times I've been gambling... and no, I've never come home with a cent more than I took. Hell, I've NEVER brought money back with me. I spend it all- a whole whopping $50. In fact, the casino often sends promotions through the mail based off of my spendings... which my family and friends get "free stays at the hotel" and "free money for spending"... My coupons, however, say "Remember to spend more money to get the casino rewards"...

Nevertheless, I'm still addicted. The only reason I only bring $50 to the casinos is because if I brought more, I would definitely spend it. And now, my family has planned a trip to Vegas for my 21st birthday... and I'm freaking out! How much do I take? Especially for 5 days? Plus money for food and drinks? Oh shoot, my nerves are shot just thinking about it. Damn it! If it wasn't for the kids doing so well on "Vegas Vacation", I probably wouldn't have ever dreamt about winning! It just looks so easy on T.V. Either way, playing the slot machines is definitely a fun pass-time. The music, the free drinks, and the many new slots with the touch screen which I have no idea how to play, is just exhilarating.

I guess the lesson in all this is: 1) Watch Suzie Orman once a week. 2) Don't believe everything you see on the television. and 3) play the penny slots to save money :)

So from now on, I'll be saving my money... or my change, I guess. I don't have lots of money sitting around. Till then.

Podcast: Episode 12

On this episode of Infinite Favorites, I've put together a wide variation of new music. I'm sorry for only saying about 60 seconds worth of words, but I promise that my next podcast will be "more talk, less play."Also, most of the music is Alternative. However, the last song is probably one of the more "Hard" rock songs that I've ever featured. I hope you enjoy.

The new music featured on this episode is:

1) Young Blood by The Naked and Famous
2) Under Cover of Darkness by The Strokes
3) Longing to Belonging by Eddie Vedder
4) Die Trying by Art of Dying

Till next time...

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

When will the sun shine? I'm sitting here in Kansas and have been severely deprived up the sunshine for almost three days! Okay, so three days isn't that bad. The good thing is that I have a playlist just for rainy days. So on this podcast, I've compiled 5 songs that I listen to when it's rainy... and guess what? They all have to do with rain.

I hope you enjoy the episode. Here is a list of the five songs that are featured on the podcast:

1) When It Rains - Paramore
2) Rain - Creed
3) Why Does It Always Rain On Me - Travis
4) Day of Rain - Thriving Ivory
5) The Lightning Strike (i) - Snow Patrol

Where's All The Good Music?

Is it just me, or did this week seem like a dead week for music? I wanted to find new, great music... but I was left disappointed. However I did find a couple of albums / songs that I really, really like. They're featured on my newest podcast episode.

"All The Same" by Sick Puppies
"The Ballad of Mona Lisa" by Panic! at the Disco
"Rolling In The Deep" by Adele

Yes, I know. There's only three songs. Hopefully I'll have more luck next week. Till then.

One Tree Hill Gets Political- I Like It.

Last night on the new episode of "One Tree Hill",  Mouth and Millie worked on a story regarding all capital letters on street signs. In the show, they reported that it was uncalled for the federal government to require states to change the signs from all-caps to regular font called "clear-view" (STOP to Stop, for example). I thought the two made a good point, but I thought the story was fiction. This morning, I found out that it was NOT fiction at all. The federal government is actually making cities slowly change the signs, which costs approximately $100 per sign.

So, New York City is having to change 250,000 signs costing $25,000,000 while there are teachers losing jobs and thousands of homeless people on the streets, as Mouth effectively put into perspective on OTH. The government's reasoning for the change? It's hard to read, which causes people to focus longer on the signs, which therefore causes accidents. So again, as OTH so perfectly stated it,  we're going to have an increase in accidents, now, because everyone is going to focus more so on the signs- wondering why they look so different. The signs are in all caps for a reason: to maximize the size of the letters in order to read them easily. Now, the letters are going to be smaller and harder to see.

Is this a waste of the government's money? I surely think so. Thank you OTH for letting everyone know where our money is going... and where it's not!

Small bits of history- Revamped!

I've been going through some of my Grandmother's old photos. I'm slowly starting to scan them all, but I'm having trouble staying focused on that task... Every once in a while I'll come across very neat photograph and I have the urge to photoshop them into ever "neater" pieces of art. Here is a photo I doctored up. The original is the b&w one, of course! Hope you find them as cool as I did. They were taken at "Old Faithful" at Yellowstone Park in 1947. Great representation of the time period.

Adele, Amos Lee, Katy Perry, & Randy Montana are at the top of my list!

This has been a long week for my iPod. Adele came out with her sophomore album, 21, and I have listened to each on of her songs 20+ times. So thank you Adele for completing my week! As far as the other three singers titled, their play counts are pretty high also. Amos Lee had a "free" song released on iTunes not too long ago and I fell in love with the music. Katy Perry re-released her song "E.T." adding in a few lines of Kanye to the chorus. The song was great to begin with, but it's probably even better now. That leaves Randy Montana: His song was another "free" discovery download from iTunes. I wasn't sure if it would ever be a hit or not- usually the free country songs from iTunes aren't big hits, but he proved me wrong. His song's all over the country stations, almost annoying... but I still love the song.

Here are the four tracks I chose to include on this weeks episode:

1) Set Fire To The Rain - Adele
2) 1000 Faces - Randy Montana
3) Windows Are Rolled Down - Amos Lee
4) E.T. (Futuristic Lover) - Katy Perry feat. Kanye West

Hope you enjoy!

Oh Tumblr, how you humor me!

I'm a huge Tumblr fan. If you have a Tumblr account, then definitely follow me and I'll return the favor.

Anyways, earlier today I was queuing pictures and videos to post later, when the servers went down. This is the message I received:

I've never laughed so hard!

My favorite road-trip movie.

Last night, I entered in an Entertainment Weekly Facebook contest. It was quite simple- all I had to do was answer what I believed was the best road-trip movie. The prize? A free copy of "Due Date" on Blu Ray. It wasn't a big prize, but hey! it was free and easy to enter. I didn't win, but it made me think long and hard about which movie I thought was the best.

There were people entering "The Hangover" and "Star Wars" and "Toy Story 2"... all of which were quite ridiculous, except for Star Wars perhaps. There may not have been any 'roads' but I could consider that type of movie. Nevertheless, some people went on very thin stretches to try to come up with a unique answer. Those who went with the "of course" choices voted "Plains, Trains, & Automobiles", "Vacation", & probably the most answered was "Thelma & Louise"... all good choices, but none of which I thought was the BEST road-trip movie.

Here's what I consider when I'm thinking of the greatest "Road Trip" movie: 1) There has to be humor. If there's no humor, then why even go on a road trip. It's supposed to be about fun, and if the people in the movie aren't having fun, then neither is the audience. 2) It has to be dramatic. There has to be a confliction of some sorts. Some people like an easy-going movie with not-so-much suspense. I think there has to be a lot of suspense. 3) There has to be a goal. Going out and having fun is not a good movie to me. They have to be going somewhere- to a destination. I don't care if they make it or not, just as long as they try. 4) The characters have to grow. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "coming-of-age" movie, but they have to learn something or take something from the road trip.

So, out of these four things I pretty much always consider when I watch any movie (not just road trip movies) I come up with a huge list. Now, a lot of moves easily fit into all of those stipulations, however, I chose 2 of what I believe to be the greatest road trip movies. I won't write about them, but I'll post links to the movies.

#2: Thelma & Louise

#1: Wild America

"Wild America" has to be one of the greatest road trip movies of all time. If you haven't seen it, go check it out. It's not too old, but it'll make you laugh, perhaps cry at some point. But ultimately, you'll enjoy watching it.

'A' is for "The Adjustment Bureau"

Last Thursday, I was able to attend a pre-screening of "The Adjustment Bureau". I've thought it's looked interesting since I saw the preview for the movie over a month ago. It was a very interesting movie, actually. To be more clear, I really loved the movie. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt had perfect on-screen chemistry, and the whole plot and storyline was perfectly original.

Matt Damon plays a young politician that always finds himself in dark times, but still favored in the state of New York. Upon learning that his current election has been lost, he runs into an interesting woman he seems to instantly love. This led to a perfect speech and throws him as a front runner for the next elections. Since that night he met 'Emily' he can't stop thinking about her, but what he doesn't realize is that he isn't supposed to ever see her again... or his fate could go south. This is where 'The Adjustment Bureau' comes in. They're quite supernatural; they control, or help guide people to their rightful fates. The only thing they can't control is luck or chance. And by chance, Matt Damon ran into his love, Emily once more. This triggered a rippling affect on the fates of many people.

By now, the 'Bureau' has to try to steer him on a path without Emily, or their alternative is to erase the politician's mind. Matt Damon has other plans, though, and ultimately sets out to prove the Bureau, and whoever's controlling everyone's destiny, wrong.

I found the movie very compelling and very fast-paced. Every scene was a surprise because I could never predict what was going to happen. So, would I recommend you going to see this movie when it comes out? Absolutely. It comes out in theaters March 4th.

My Thoughts On The Grammys...

Lady Antebellum
Last night shocked me in more than one way. First of all, I loved how the Country trio "Lady Antebellum" dominated the record and single of the year. As an avid Country listener, I was very pleased to see them win. However, I do believe that their songs are more crossover than solely country. My reasoning for saying this: I'm listening to the local pop/rock radio station and "Need You Now" starts in while Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" finishes up. So, is their popularity stemming just from Country roots? Or are they hugely famous, now, because of their pop "aspirations" or "influences"? I think the latter, but I'm still love them and I will never change the station upon hearing their voices just because they are pop AND country. Some people discriminate when a singer/group's songs dominate both charts. I know that people especially get disgusted with Taylor Swift (who's often in the same situation)... but a really good artist can be played everywhere, and I believe that's what Lady Antebellum has accomplished. They've earned their wide listenership, especially after last night. Congrats Lady A.

Gaga in her "Egg"
As for the other "Lady"... what was she thinking? Her new single "Born This Way" is a very catchy tune, but I found her dramatic entrance to the Grammys in her Egg a bit tacky. I guess she is known for her tacky, over-the-top clothes and entrances, but I found it quite annoying. And what did she have on her shoulders and face? Horns? What the hell? Anyways, I thought her win last night was well-deserved for "The Fame Monster". Nevertheless, hopefully people don't get tired of her over-the-topness. But, I guess if she's always surprising everyone, then that's something she won't need to worry about.

Best New Artist - Spalding
Out of all of the surprises last night, the two largest ones, in my opinion, were the winners of Album of the Year, and Best New Artist. Best new artist was the most shocking thing I've ever seen on the Grammy's. My top two choices were a showdown between Mumford and Sons and Justin Bieber.  I didn't used to be a Bieber fan, but recently I've felt partial to his music. I don't know why, but the more I listen to his music, the more I like it. Don't ask why, this was definitely against my wishes. Nevertheless, I thought Justin Bieber would have won Best New Artist, FOR SURE. He's one of the largest artists on the planet and has only been around since 2008. I thought it was a Gimme. Then when they announced Esperanza Spalding, the first thing that popped into my head was "Is this a joke?" and "Who in the hell is that?". I can't say much about the woman, but I have no idea who she is nor what she's sang or what she sounds like. Can the academy choose somebody that so few people have heard of? I guess last night proves that they can, but I'm still shocked. Bieber or Mumford & Sons; either should have won. I guess this would be a good time to listen to Spalding on iTunes and decide if the Academy could possibly be right.

Suburbs - Arcade Fire
As for the last shock of my night: Best Album. It was a tough choice from my end. The nominees were Arcade Fire's 'The Suburbs', Eminem's 'The Recovery', Lady A's 'Need You Now', & Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream'. My choice was between Lady Antebellum and Eminem, but Arcade Fire took home the Grammy. That was a shock to me. I have most of their albums, but I've never really liked their music. I hadn't heard their 'Suburbs' album yet, so I couldn't judge last night. This morning, however, I pulled up their album on iTunes, and I LOVE the album. So I definitely think they rightfully won Album of the Year, but I still think it's a shocker. Such a small, alternative band winning Album of the Year? What an honor. Congrats Arcade Fire, I'm sorry I underestimated you!

What do you think about the winners?

Oh How I Miss The 90's

I was a 90's kid. So the music I grew up listening to was the music of the 90's... duh. So my newest podcast is a composition of several different songs of the 90's. They aren't all complete songs, but there are a few.

Some of my favorite 90's songs aren't going to be on the podcast because of time issues. But below, I've included a list of all of the songs I love along with links to the music (youtube).

Top 3 Artists of the Decade? (And yes I was young so I am partial to these)

1) Hanson
2) Savage Garden
3) N*SYNC

As for the list of favorite songs:

Tearin' Up My Heart - N*SYNC

Wonderwall - Oasis

You Learn - Alanis Morissette

Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve

I Believe I Can Fly - R. Kelly

Crash Into Me - Dave Matthews Band

Good Riddance - Green Day

Jumper - Third Eye Blind

Sweet Dreams - Nas

3 AM - Matchbox 20

Fly - Sugar Ray

She's So High - Tal Bachman

Weird - Hanson

So there you have it. My list of favorite 90's songs! Hope you enjoy!

Saying goodbye to an old friend.

We've all lost someone special in our lives. Today, I lost my best friend- Woody. Woody was my family's first pet and this morning he peacefully left our lives. I don't have much to say about losing our pet, but I just wanted to post something about him. I know some people may think it weird to mourn the loss of a pet, but I find it rightfully just when you've had an animal in your lives for 14 years. I grew up with him and he's been with me during every step of my life.

Here's a picture of Woodrow. He's a Bassett Hound, 14 years of age and this picture was taken approximately 10 years ago. We were bored one day and decided to dress him up in some of my brother and I's baby clothes.

Baby, It's cold outside!

If you live in the states, there's a good possibility that it's -5 degrees outside with more than an inch of snow on the ground. As a Kansas resident, I've been cooped-up in my house for two days with a foot of snow on the ground. My parents received 17" of snow, which the local news reporters are saying is the most snow Kansas has gotten in the past 60 years. Facebook groups are now sprouting up everywhere named "Snowpocolypse" and "Real-Life Day After Tomorrow", and I'm proud to say that I've joined both of them. Now I'm not one to find a foot of snow really interesting, but it's not just the midwest that has recently received so much white stuff. The east coast has also got a couple of feet within the last two months. It's freakish, but who doesn't love a little / lot of snow?

In light of it all, my father sent a picture of our cows back on the farm. I thought it was hilarious.

"Red Riding Hood" Trailer

Hits theaters on March 11th. Can't wait!

The Rite... Was 'Right' On!

I'm a horror fanatic. You can probably tell by how much I love Halloween. Nevertheless, a new movie sparked my interest recently. To say the least, I wasn't really sure what The Rite was about. I saw a glimpse of the previews which showed Anthony Hopkins as a preist and was set in Rome. That enough was all it took for me to head over to the theater. And to be specifically clear, this movie wasn't a horror, but it very well could be- it just depends on the person.

Kovak, played by Colin O'Donoghue
When the movie started, it was a little creepy. A young boy whose father was a mortician? Not what I was expecting... but that led to the boy entering the priesthood as an adult. The man was quite a skeptic for a priest (or potential priest) and caught the eyes of his superiors. They sent him to the vatican as a "last chance" mission to test his faith, more or less. He was to attend classes on exorcisms.

Quickly, the vatican realized his skepticisms and decided to send him to a local "legend" in the exorcism professions, Father Lucas. Lucas, played by Hopkins, is a normal- quite humorous priest who, what seemed like a daily basis, performed exorcists on local civilians.

From then on, the young skeptic, Kovak, is tested in his faith and ultimately faces the horrific demon who has been possessing the locals, only to find out that it's ultimate target is...?

Sir Anthony Hopkins as Father Lucas
To shortly review the movie: It starts off very interesting, but definitely fast pasted. It maybe takes Lucas 15 minutes of the movie to get to The Vatican. Twenty minutes before you witness the first exorcist. Even though this is not what I was expecting the movie to be about, although now when I fully watch the previews it specifically portrays exorcisms, it was Excellent. I've seen them all- The Exorcist, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Possession, The Last Exorcist, to name a few, and I haven't been impressed with either of them. None of the movies have seemed realistic, but this one did. There was no head spinning- all the way, that is. No impossible bodily positions. It was basic- but visually terrifying.

O'Donoghue with co-star Alice Braga
I wouldn't classify this as a Horror movie, but as a Thriller. So if you are up for a good Thriller than definitely go see The Rite. If seeing a movie about exorcisms that is based on true events scares the hell out of you, then this movie will scare the hell out of you. The movie is based on true facts, and does say so in the beginning and end of the film. Also, both of the priests in the movie are based on real people and are still living today. Go check them out- and the movie too!

New Angle on This Blog...

Okay, so I've created two different blogs. One for my personal life and one for reviews and entertainment. I've done away with my personal blog because I could never find anything to write about. I would sit there for an hour with no exciting things to write. However, every now and then I'll think about something I'd like to write, and I have no personal blog. So, I'm going to combine some of my personal thoughts and stories with the entertainment articles that I already include in this blog.

Hardly anything will change, but there will just be more than personal stuff mixed in here or there. Hope you enjoy it all.

'Food' for thought...

I'm currently enrolled in a Philosophy of art class, and today my professor asked a question that I am unable to get out of my mind. I have yet been able to come up with an answer.

The question:  Say you had to describe a piece of food... pineapple, burrito, beer... basically anything with a taste. Could you successfully describe the taste of food without comparing it to another food or taste?

You could say "sour", "sweet", "spicy', but these wouldn't effectively tell me what a pineapple tasted like. I should be able to almost be able to taste the food without actually eating it... but I can't come up with anything. So, yes. This is what I'm writing about on my Friday night. Lame, but perfectly valid.

Happy Birthday Buffy!

Here's the deal. For all of you nerds out there, you may already know this: Yesterday, January 19, was "Buffy Summer's" birthday. Yes, yes, I am a complete dork for unconditionally celebrating a fictional character's birthday... however, I find it no different than tuning in to watch "V for Vendetta" on November 5th... or watching "Halloween" on Halloween.  To me, Buffy The Vampire Slayer was one of the greatest, innovational TV series ever made. And, to wish Buffy a happy birthday, I have embedded a few of my favorite 'Buffy' episodes. I hope you enjoy.

By the way, Buffy is 30. Happy B-Day B.
