'Food' for thought...

I'm currently enrolled in a Philosophy of art class, and today my professor asked a question that I am unable to get out of my mind. I have yet been able to come up with an answer.

The question:  Say you had to describe a piece of food... pineapple, burrito, beer... basically anything with a taste. Could you successfully describe the taste of food without comparing it to another food or taste?

You could say "sour", "sweet", "spicy', but these wouldn't effectively tell me what a pineapple tasted like. I should be able to almost be able to taste the food without actually eating it... but I can't come up with anything. So, yes. This is what I'm writing about on my Friday night. Lame, but perfectly valid.

Happy Birthday Buffy!

Here's the deal. For all of you nerds out there, you may already know this: Yesterday, January 19, was "Buffy Summer's" birthday. Yes, yes, I am a complete dork for unconditionally celebrating a fictional character's birthday... however, I find it no different than tuning in to watch "V for Vendetta" on November 5th... or watching "Halloween" on Halloween.  To me, Buffy The Vampire Slayer was one of the greatest, innovational TV series ever made. And, to wish Buffy a happy birthday, I have embedded a few of my favorite 'Buffy' episodes. I hope you enjoy.

By the way, Buffy is 30. Happy B-Day B.

Season 1, Episode 1. "Welcome to the Hellmouth

Season 2, Episode 6. "Halloween"

Season 3, Episode 5. "Homecoming"

Season 4, Episode 10. "Hush"

Season 5, Episode 22. "The Gift"

Season 6, Episode 7. "Once More With Feeling"

Season 7, Episode 22. "Chosen"

Couple of Songs... and some recaps!

Here is my 7th official podcast! I put a couple of new songs on it... and I talked about a few things like the show Off The Map... and the funniest women of the decade!

Hope you enjoy!

Oops... Why didn't I think of her?

I can't believe that out of all of the women I chose to be the funniest of the decade, I forgot Kathy Griffin. Had I remembered her when I posted the last entry, she would have been THE funniest lady of the decade. So, because I don't want to boot any other lady off of the list, I'm making Kathy Griffin the Honorary Funniest Lady of the Decade tied at first place with Emma Stone.

How you know her best: She is a best-selling author / comedienne. She has her own show, My Life On The D-List.

10 Funniest Women of the past Decade!

It may be 2011, but it's only January... and I have put a list together of the 10 funniest women from 2000 - 2010.  The women aren't in any specific order, but I have chosen the top woman out of all 10.

Melissa Peterman

How you know her best: She played "Barbara Jean" in the TV show Reba.

Amy Poehler

How you know her best: Skits from SNL or her hit show Parks & Recreation

Betty White

How you know her best: "Rose" from Golden Girls... but from this decade, the grandma from The Proposal or her role in the show Hot in Cleveland.

Chelsea Handler

How you know her best: Her hosting job on the E! show Chelsea Lately

Cloris Leachman

How you know her best: She's been around forever and in movies such as Young Frankenstein. But I believe she's reprised her humorous self in the hit show Raising Hope.

Kirstie Alley

How you know her best: She's been famous from Cheers and other movies, but recently she's sparked my interest in her hilarious shows such as Fat Actress and the reality show Kirstie Alley's Big Life.

Kristen Wiig

How you know her best: SNL and the movie MacGruber

Rachel Dratch

How you know her best: SNL and the hilarious movie Spring Breakdown.

Reba

How you know her best: Well this one is a gimme... but I find her hilarious whenever somebody gives her a mic.  I loved her most in her show Reba.

And the most hilarious woman of the decade is... EMMA STONE.

I've never really actually known her to be a comedienne, however she's hilarious and great in all of her films: Superbad, The House Bunny, Zombieland, Easy A... anyways, because of her hilarious performances in these movies, and someone I've found to be most entertaining, she is MY funniest woman of the past 10 years.

"Off The Map" is SPOT-on in my book!

My winter break is coming to an end and hardly any shows have resumed from their breaks, but I saw a preview for a new show I found really interesting. 'Off The Map' presented itself to be a Grey's Anatomy / Private Practice meets Lost (without all the weirdness). So, with the preview fresh in my mind, I went straight to the DVR and set it to record the pilot. To my surprise, I really liked the show.

It's about three new doctors arriving in a village in South America. They are joining three other doctors in need of their help. These two sentences pretty much describe the whole show. Imaging Grey's Anatomy in a jungle with no equipment and fancy medicines and which is what you get with Off The Map.

Also, as a Good Wife fan, guest star Mamie Gummer played a well-knowledged young lawyer who acted more or less, dumb. That's where I learned of Gummer and decided to research her further. Being the daughter of Meryl Streep, she has since been a favorite actress of mine. Then I saw her in Off The Map. This show will no doubt be a huge success. I don't see it reaching "Grey's Anatomy: Season 3" status, but maybe equivalent to Grey's now.

So if you haven't had the chance to watch the new show, please go watch it here on the ABC website. You won't be disappointed.

I'm back!... with more music.

There hasn't been a lot of new music... but I've found a few songs that I really, really like. So I'm sharing them with you. I also ramble about some movies I've seen and T.V. shows I've started getting into. Hope you enjoy! I'm using a new laptop and a new program- so hopefully the podcast quality is just as good or even better.

Podcast later!

News Stories
I started a list of things that I have read in which I actually remember. Then I found this article. Instead of making the list myself and creating links to each article I could find, I think it's appropriate to just go to the link above.

So there you have it. The best entertainment items of 2010. I don't have a lot of each, but hopefully everything on this list you agree with. I can only hope that 2011 is much better. There is already so much I have to do and go see... and I'll write about them as I go through them. Blog later, and also a podcast coming soon.
